
In 1999 Mr. Saravanan decided to create a school in the hamlet of Bharathi Nagar, where he lived, close to the Bay of Bengal, in Tamil Nadu, South-India.
His sole aim was to help the poor children in his neighborhood to get easy access to education, as he himself lacked it during his early childhood. He started to teach 35 children in the age of 3-4 years old, in his own house, together with his wife. In 2003 they, together with three other members, registered the Sri Ragavendra Educational Trust. Sri Ragavendra was a famous Hindu saint in South-India. Now they are officially recognized by the Indian government and a new school building has been constructed, the next phase of attracting more students can begin.
